Maths - Order of Operations (30 Mins)

Fluent in 5:

Please complete the questions above. Aim to complete them within five minutes and then use the inverse operation to check your answers.

Go Noodle: Today is International Dance Day so why not get involved by dancing along to 'Can't Touch This'? Have a go by yourself or get the whole family involved. I would love to see videos of you all dancing so you can email them across or better still why not Tweet them on Twitter and tag @schoolscotby  You can also check out Mr Keahola's dance video here too.

Reading: Find or make yourself a cosy place to read and get yourself a drink of your choosing. (My favourite place to read when it is raining is on my window seat with a nice hot brew.) When you have found your favourite place, relax and enjoy reading your book for 25-30 minutes.

I would also love to hear what you are all currently reading so why not drop me a message or send a picture of you in your cosy reading place with your current book.

SPAG: Yesterday, we revisited simple sentences and today we are going to look at compound sentences.

To help you with today's task, before completing the activity on SATs Companion, open up the file attached below. Make sure you view it as a slideshow and then complete the tasks as you go through. You don't have to write them down if you don't want to, you can just do them verbally.

When you have finished working your way through, log on to SATs Companion and complete the activity 'Identifying Compound Sentences'.

Maths: Today we are going to be looking at the 'Order of Operations' we know this as BODMAS - Brackets, Orders (square/cubed numbers), Division, Multiplication, Addition and Subtraction.

Now remember Division and Multiplication and Addition and Subtraction are interchangeable so it is whichever comes first!

For example:

6 + 4 x 2 =

Ask yourselves each of the questions...

Brackets? No

Orders? No

Division or Multiplication? Yes (So we solve this part first 4 x 2 = 8)

Our question now looks like this 6 + 8 =

We then continue with the questions...

Addition or subtraction? Yes  6 + 8 = 14 so our answer = 14

You can find a video on the lessons section of SATs Companion to watch called BIDMAS, please make sure you watch it before completing the activity.

Art: Check out Mr Kealoha's Greek block printing lesson in the video below...
