ABOUT US

Scotby Church of England Primary School  ( Foundation Status)

Scotby School is one of Cumbria’s most popular and successful primary schools. The school is oversubscribed for most year groups, and serves the two attractive rural villages of Wetheral and Scotby and the eastern fringe of the city of Carlisle. The school has seven age groups, from Reception to Year Six, and has ten classes- four in the infant department and six in the juniors. There are @ 265 pupils on the roll, class sizes range from 26-30. The current staffing complement consists of eleven fulltime teachers, two part-time, plus the head teacher. School is very well staffed in terms of non-teaching support, and the total number of employees is 38.

The school is ex-grant maintained and has made significant progress in recent years. Five new classrooms have been built, and the rest of the school extensively refurbished. Our  computer suite has 30 PC's ,opened in 2000, and facilities ,including our out of school club, are excellent. In 2005 we finished a half million pound building scheme to reduce class sizes and provide a large assembly hall. The infants playground has plans for improvement. In all aspects of school life improvement is sought, and our School Development Plan is regularly reformulated in line with government initiatives.
