Year 4/5: Mr Kealoha

Welcome to Year 4/5.

Dear all,

Welcome back to the new year at Scotby School. I am so excited to start working with the Year 4s and 5s and cannot wait to get to know all of them over the year. Already I can see that they are a caring, thoughtful and very positive class and I am sure that we shall all have a very positive year together.

Our topic for the start of the year is 'Our Changing World'. Although we are always living through times of great change, it certainly feels like this last year there have  been some huge changes for everyone. We will explore many of those changes to help the children have a better understanding of the world in which we live and their place within it. All of our subjects will have change at their heart for example we will start out in art looking at artists who have changed the world and our view of it. Artists such as Tyree Guyton and Banksy.

Our literacy will be guided by 2 books to start. 'Here We Are' by Oliver Jeffers and 'The Boy At The Back Of The Class' by Onjali Q Rauf. There is lots to explore and many questions to answer and that are answered by each book. Please continue to encourage your child to read at home. They will be provided with a home reading book which should be kept there and a book to read in school.

Home work will be set on MyMaths and Spelling Shed, weekly, and the children should also practise their times tables using TTRockstars.

Our P.E session is on Thursdays for which the children will need to attend school in their track suit trousers/shorts and trainers.

If for any reason your child is unable to attend school, a weekly time table of activities will be available each week with links to lessons and any resources needed. Should you have any queries please direct them to the class email where I will endeavour to answer them as quickly as possible.

Kind regards and here's to a great year.
