Tuesday 9th June

Tuesday 9th June 2020

P.E.

You could start your day by joining Joe Wicks again for his daily live P.E. session which can be accessed here: https://www.youtube.com/user/thebodycoach1

Are you looking for something different to do?  Why not take a look at the Athletics Activities below – a set of six activities that can be completed at home with your family, using simple items that hopefully you will have access to.

Reading and English

Today there are slightly different tasks depending on which guided reading text you are reading on Purple Mash.  This is to make sure all 3 groups reach the end of their text by Thursday of this week, so that we can start reading a new text related to our history work (Stone Age) next week.

The Porchester Park Project

First read Chapter 5 of your guided reading text (either independently or with an adult) and then answer the multiple choice questions that follow.  Both of these tasks have been set as 2Dos on Purple Mash.

Then complete the writing task related to Chapter 5.  Use the template on Purple Mash (set as another 2Do) to create a character profile for Freya.  The pop-up prompts provide useful ideas to make sure your description is detailed and includes evidence from the story so far.

A Bit of a Hero

Please re-read Chapter 4 of your guided reading text (or re-read Chapters 1 to 4 if you want to be thorough).

Then there are two more tasks below to complete related to Chapter 4.  It would be good to discuss your answers to the open-ended questions with an adult at home.

Ned and the Three Bears

Please re-read Chapter 4 of your guided reading text (or re-read Chapters 1 to 4 if you want to be thorough).

Then there are two more tasks below to complete related to Chapter 4.  Both have been set as 2Dos on the Purple Mash website.

Spelling

Please log on to Spelling Shed  and complete the online activity set for you this week.

If you have a Lexia or Nessy login, don't forget to keep up with your usage.  Try to spread it out throughout the week in short blocks (i.e. no more than 20 mins at a time).

Quick Maths

Today’s challenge: Addition 5 Minute Frenzy

Choose one of the sheets below, (either numbers to 10, 2-digit numbers to 50 or 2-digit numbers to 100) use a clock or timer set to 5 minutes and see how many calculations you can answer correctly in that time.

I will set this challenge again on Thursday to see if you can beat your score!

Maths

Have a go at one of these BBC Bitesize Maths lessons using the links below:

Y3 = Equivalent fractions and simplifying fractions

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/znsc86f

Y4 = Dividing numbers by 10

History

We are going to find out about changes in Britain from the Stone Age to the Iron Age over the next few weeks.  This is a new topic for the Year 3 children in our class; for the Year 4 children, this will help you revise some of the teaching and learning from your Autumn term topic in 2018 (A long, long time ago…).

Following on from yesterday’s BBC Bitesize lesson about Prehistoric Britain, read the PowerPoint below to find out more about the earliest humans (hunter-gatherers) and the food they ate.

If you would like to, you could then have a go at making an example (or examples) of a Stone Age tool by printing the paper models or designing and making your own using real materials!  I have provided a couple of resource sheets to help guide you if you would like to create your own.
