Monday 23rd March

Monday 23rd March 2020

Please log on to Spelling Shed  and complete the online activities which focus on Challenge words taken from the Year 3/4 additional word list.

Last week we finished reading our class text 'My Friend Walter'.  I would like you to write the first draft of a newspaper article about the discovery of the Golden Orb.  You will find further guidance on the activity sheet provided below (page 3 of the PDF document) which includes an extract from Chapter 10.  This should help if you missed the end of the chapter.  (Please note, this is lesson 1 of 2, so tomorrow you will produce a final draft.)  You may wish to write your first draft on paper, or you can use the newspaper template on Purple Mash (within your 2Dos).  Alternatively, you can type on a Word document which can then be emailed to our class email address tomorrow.

Quick Maths

Times Tables - test your knowledge by logging on to TT Rockstars for 5 or 10 minutes.  How many questions can you answer correctly in that time?  Try to pinpoint where errors are made, e.g. do you need to practise a particular times table more?  If you would like to work away from the computer, ask someone to set you questions and try to answer them in a given time.

Why not try the Joe Wicks kids workouts to do at home using the following link:

Alternatively, if the weather continues to be fair, can you spend some time in your garden being active, e.g. playing football, jumping on a trampoline etc?

You can now log on to the Star Reader website and complete quizzes at home, so whenever you finish a book, try searching to see if there is a quiz you can do.  I will continue to update our star reader chart to monitor progress.

If you have a Lexia or Nessy login, don't forget to keep up with your usage.  Try to spread it out throughout the week in short blocks (i.e. no more than 20 mins at a time).

Please log on to Purple Mash and you will find a Maths quiz to complete in your 2Dos.  It is all about time conversions, e.g. do you know the number of seconds in a minute and the number of days in each month, year and leap year?

Topic - History

What can you find out about Carlisle Castle in the year 1314?  Who was Robert the Bruce and why is he linked to the history of Carlisle Castle?  Talk to someone at home about what you have found out.  If you are struggling to find any facts, use the document below to help you summarise the key events.
