PTA NEWS

The first meeting of the PTA in 2010 took place on Tuesday 19th January.  The discussions at the meeting concentrated on reviewing last terms PTA events; discussing ideas for this term and how best to spend some of the funds.  Several ideas about how to spend funds were raised by parents and teachers.  After debate, it was decided that some of the funds would be spent on updating the School libraries, purchasing new library books and reference books for the classrooms.  Everyone felt that this would benefit all the children.  Several ways of updating the books/libraries in school are going to be pursued.  These are;

In this scheme Nestle in association with Dorling Kindersley books, offers free educational books in exchange for tokens found on Nestlé cereal box tops.  We would like to ask you to collect the box top tokens and bring them into school.  Each class will have its own collection box.  The class that collects the most Box tops by 26th March 2010 will win a prize. 

  • Second hand Book Day

The date for this event will be announced shortly.  In the meantime, we would like you to look through your books at home and put aside any children’s books in good condition, which you no longer want. 

  • Library Volunteers

The school library is run by volunteers.  At present there are only 2 people involved.  If any parent or guardian is interested in helping for one and half hours on a Friday morning please speak to Miss Watson.

Future PTA Events

The Disco will take place on Thursday 11th March 2010.

  • Infants begins at 6.00pm and finishes at 7.00pm.
  • Juniors begins at 7.15pm and finishes at 8.15pm.

Entry to the disco is £2 per child which includes a packet of sweets and unlimited drinks of squash or water.  Tickets for the Disco will be sold in advance.  A letter giving more details about the disco and how to purchase tickets will follow shortly. 

The ‘S’ Factor will take place on Friday 16th April 2010.  Further details about this event will be sent out during March.

We would really appreciate it if parents could help out at both these events.  If you can help at either event please contact any member of the PTA, your child’s teacher or alternatively send us an e-mail at pta@parent.scotby.cumbria.sch.uk.

Scotby School is now registered with buy.at/ , a company that provides fundraising webshops . When shopping on line we would appreciate if you, where possible, check if the shop you are using is registered in the school's webshop. You can access this either through the school website then clicking on the link or www.buy.at/scotbyschool . There are over a hundred shops registered and each retailer gives up to 12% commission to the school on each purchase.
